Agency Update

Last August, Waypoint began a new journey of our own, when we officially closed the domestic violence shelter. As many of you may recall when we announced this change, we emphasized that we were not abandoning our mission of ensuring that women who were victims of violence would have a safe and supportive place to go when they needed shelter. Rather, we were expanding our services to be better equipped to address the many needs that families have when they are experiencing domestic abuse in their lives.

Women who need safe, confidential emergency shelter can still find it through the Waypoint crisis and support line. A trained advocate is available 24/7 to help women who need find a safe place to go. In addition, we have hired two additional advocates, allowing the victims services advocacy team to serve many more women and families that ever before. In December, the team was on track to nearly double the number served by the end of June.

Our goal for this change was to ensure that we could offer more comprehensive services for all of our families by creating a holistic approach between our homeless and homeless prevention, child care and victim services programs. The needs of our families cross over between these programs, and we continue to work to ensure that our case managers, victim advocates and child care staff are working together to meet the needs of each individual who comes to Waypoint for assistance.
