| April 22, 2010 Dear Friend and Supporter: Over the past decade, our country has gone from great prosperity to a near economic collapse. While these cycles impact us all, those who struggle at the bottom of the economic ladder, find their lives to be even more difficult during a recession. As the economy worsens, jobs are cut, and so is funding for human services. This leaves nonprofits like Waypoint to experience an increase in demand for services and a decrease in funds to provide them. We are reaching out to you for help. Waypoint is projecting a $50,000 shortfall in annual contributions for this fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. This is the first time since 2001 that we will have not met our financial goals. We are doing everything we can to cut back, but without your help, we may end up short. |
Waypoint has seen a significant increasein the number of clients coming to us for help.One example is a mother whose income recently increased just enough to bump her out of government food and child care assistance programs. Without child care, she would have to give up her goal of completing college and making a better life for her family. Under normal circumstances, Waypoint would use the money we receive from United Way to fill this financial gap. But because of the high demand for financial assistance for child care, we have already used every dollar of this funding, which forces us to tap into our general agency funds.
This situation is one example of many at Waypoint where it has become difficult to fulfill our mission and help families become self-sufficient so they can raise their children in a safe, stable environment.
You have supported the work of Waypoint. You may have already given this year, but we are asking you to help a little more. If 500 of our dedicated supporters could donate $50 each, we would cut our shortfall in half.
Yet, whatever amount you can share will help ensure that each of the families we serve – victims of violence; the homeless; those who are in need of supplies to get by for a few weeks; or the family who needs child care in order to keep a job – will be helped…every day, every week, every month.
