Volunteers are an invaluable component of Waypoint.
Waypoint relies on volunteers to help us with our mission.
Here is a list of opportunities:
Coordinate Food and Supply Drives
- Coordinate a food and supply drive at your workplace, civic group, church or youth group. The two shelters at Waypoint rely 100% on community donations of food, cleaning products, baby supplies, personal hygiene products and clothing.
- A complete list of shelter needs can be found at www.waypointservices.org.
Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocacy
(32 hours of free domestic violence/sexual assault training is required and provided by Waypoint).
- Support staff at shelter including answering the crisis line and assisting women and children.
- Provide emergency advocacy at hospitals. This is an as-needed, on-call, 48-hour shift.
Help Clients Move Out of Shelter
- Assist women and children living at the Madge Phillips Center with moving their belongings into their new homes when they depart from shelter.
- Would be an ongoing, as-needed volunteer opportunity.
- Volunteer's vehicle would be utilized.
Clothes Closet Restocking
- Wednesdays, 5 - 7 p.m. at the Waypoint Madge Phillips Center, lower level.
- Seeking four groups of 4 - 10 people to help one Wednesday per month.
- Sort donated clothing (throwing out old, stained, out-of-date items, etc.)
- Display items in a manner that gives the clothes closet a "store like"
appearance.
- Groups are encouraged to use themes and put together fun display ideas to increase the attractiveness of the area for the women and children in need
Assist at Wise Buys Resale Shop
- Wise Buys Resale Shop sales clerk assistance.
- Merchandise tagging and preparation.
- Arranging donations to go to shelters.
Waypoint Back to School Supplies Distribution (August)
- Coordinate a back to school supply drive at your workplace, civic group, church or youth group.
- Help prepare, sort and set-out donations.
- Sign up to help distribute items to families in need.
Holiday Gift Distribution Assistance (December)
- Coordinate a holiday gift drive at your workplace, civic group, church or youth group.
- Help prepare, sort, and set out donated gifts.
- Sign up to help distribute gifts to clients.
Shelter Field Trip Assistance with Children (June - August)
- Assist the Child Advocate staff members at Waypoint two shelters by chaperoning children ranging from age two - 18 on various field trips throughout summer months.
- Field trips are planned weekly on a weekday from June - August, generally from noon
- 4 p.m.
- A full schedule is available in June.
Cleaning
- Waypoint supports four cleaning days each year where volunteers assist in deep cleaning the Waypoint facilities and equipment.
Internships are also available upon request.
