Geared toward building friendships and unifying women, Waypoint’s Weekly Downtown Walking Group is perfect for finding inspiration through conversations, laughter, and good company. Besides being an opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and exercise, the walking group also provides a space to develop lasting, quality friendships. “This group is aimed at building physical strength, taking a nice walk, and enjoying being with other women to build natural supports,” Waypoint Employee and Walking Group Leader Jodi said.
Jodi has led the walking group since last spring, combining her passion for health and positive relationships. She sees the walking group an opportunity to gather with like-minded people, easing the process of cultivating friendships. “Let’s be real for a moment - it’s hard to make friends as an adult!” Jodi said. “With work, kids, families, and other responsibilities, there’s not much time or energy left in the week to meet new people.” Jodi emphasizes that, on top of getting to know others, the walking group is also a chance to spend time with a current friend.
At one hour once a week, the walking group is a low time commitment for a large amount of social and physical benefits. “It can be hot and humid outside, but the vitamin D is good for supporting mental health, the exercise is good for supporting physical health, and the conversation is good for supporting emotional health,” Jodi said.
