Did you know that each room at KidsPoint Learning Center and Preschools are divided by color and age? The Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, and Rainbow Rooms serve different purposes, but all strive to make sure the children have a safe place grow and express themselves. Each room builds on skills that the children learn in the previous rooms, with the end goal of having each child be “kindergarten ready” upon graduation.
The Red Room is for babies between 6 weeks and 6 months old. Teachers help the children with sitting up, rolling over, and grasping rattles to improve the child’s early social, physical, cognitive, and language skills. Each child gets an individual care plan to meet their developmental needs and schedule.
The Orange Room is for children between 6 and 12 months old. Kids are assisted with walking, talking, fine motor skills, and expressing their feelings and emotions. They might accomplish this through crawling through tunnels, learning sign language, using hand motions in songs, building with blocks, listening to stories, and singing.
The Yellow Room is for children between 12 and 18 months old. They learn about healthy habits, sensory activities, and social and problem-solving skills. Teachers encourage them to wash their hands and face, build with blocks, explore musical instruments, play outside, sit in circles for songs and stories, and to develop early literacy and mathematics.
The Green Room is for children 18 to 24 months old. Teachers incorporate various cognitive, social, and physical activities to offer challenges and fun to keep pace with a child’s educational needs. They may get messy while building or playing with new materials, so it’s important for them to have at least two changes of clothes! Teachers will assist children with potty training once their parents/guardians feels they are ready.
The Blue Room is for 2 to 3 year-olds and is the first year of preschool for the children. They learn early language skills, classroom expectations, and fine motor skills. Opportunities for learning and development are experienced through purposeful play, art exploration, and dramatic play.
The Purple Room is for 3 to 4 year olds who are ready to focus on more advanced skills. Emotions, sharing, listening, and personal expression are emphasized. The children must listen to each other when they take turns sharing toys during imaginative play. They also begin to learn pre-math, early literacy, and writing!
In the Rainbow Room, the children are in their final year of preschool and are almost ready for kindergarten! Teachers engage the children with activities related to independence, creativity, problem solving, and continued development of fine and gross motor skills. In addition, Iowa state guidelines for prepping children for kindergarten are followed, and teachers strive to develop the children’s literacy, science, and math skills to prepare them to start kindergarten the next year.
KidsPoint believes every child deserves love and attention. They value communication and are always available to answer questions about a child’s development, concerns, or how a child’s day is going. All the rooms focus on providing children from all backgrounds the support and skills they need to thrive.
