Wanda Gains Safety Through Victim Advocate

Every year, Waypoint’s Domestic Violence Victim Services Program works with over 2,500 survivors of domestic violence. Waypoint advocates offer access to resources and support to empower them to move forward in their lives. Survivors like Wanda depend on the support of advocates and organizations like Waypoint to overcome barriers and navigate extremely difficult situations.

Wanda came to Waypoint for support after the abuse she and her children were experiencing from her husband became life-threatening. Wanda never reported the abuse in the past because she feared this would lead to further harm. Because of the high-risk situation, her Waypoint advocate had to be flexible to ensure her safety. They met and spoke when it was convenient for Wanda, doing everything possible to keep her and her children safe as they continued to work together.

One day, Wanda reached out to her advocate after being assaulted. She was at her breaking point and wasn’t sure what to do next. Her advocate helped develop a safety plan, which involved fleeing her home with her children. Waypoint was able to provide financial assistance for gas and food and helped Wanda connect with other services in the area for continued support as she and her children worked to move forward. Today, Wanda is moving forward and working hard to gain stability for herself and children.

Without supporters like you who believe in the mission of Waypoint, we could not empower survivors like Wanda to move forward. Your gift can truly change lives.
