help end domestic violence

The Gentleman Campaign©

Did you know that according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence within their lifetime? Waypoint established the Gentleman Campaign© in 2013 in an effort to spread awareness about domestic violence and encourage community involvement. Throughout the month of October, events are held that recognize the individuals, especially men, who are taking a stand with Waypoint to end domestic violence.

Awareness Events for Gentleman Campaign©:

  • Apparel Sales: Stay tuned for Oct. 2024 apparel!

  • Gentleman Day: On Oct. 18, mayors of the larger communities we serve will proclaim Gentleman Day during their city hall meetings (Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Dubuque).

Make sure to wear your Gentleman Campaign© gear on Gentleman Day to spread awareness on ending domestic violence.

  • Downtown CR Purple Ribbons: During October, look for purple ribbons around downtown Cedar Rapids that show our support of survivors of domestic violence and those needing help.

  • Community Flyers: Waypoint provides updated flyers to area businesses, community organizations, and human services to ensure those who need support know where to turn.

  • Law Enforcement: Throughout October, law enforcement takes a stand with Waypoint Advocates to spread awareness about domestic violence.
  • Become an Exceptional GENTLEMAN: In October, Waypoint asks for 100 exceptional GENTLEMEN to step up and donate $100 with proceeds directly supporting Waypoint's Domestic Violence Victim Services.

To be an exceptional GENTLEMAN, you must be committed to:

    - Not committing acts of violence against others
    - Being a mentor to the younger generation
    - Modeling what a healthy relationship looks like to your children and/or younger people in your life
    - Speaking up to others if you see them committing acts of violence against others
    - Taking a stand against domestic violence
